The Deposit in Trust
When writing a promise to purchase, the buyer usually remits a cheque to the listing broker as a deposit on the purchase. This deposit attests to the buyer’s seriousness.
After the promise to purchase is accepted, the broker must deposit the money in his trust account.
Your deposit is thus protected by the Fonds d’indemnisation du courtage immobilier up to a limit of $15,000 per transaction.
