I’m very excited to announce that Terrie Schauer will be speaking to our group about property management.  I met this dynamic woman a month ago and thought she would be a perfect addition to our group. She is incredibly knowledgeable and I believe most of you will be interested in what she has to say.

Terrie will give an overview of the business and how it works.  We will leave plenty of time for questions that you might have about managing your business and properties.  Overview of her talk:

3 GOLDEN RULES OF MANAGING INVESTMENT PROPERTIES

1) Pick your tenants wisely

  • how to assess tenants when buying
  • how to pick tenants when you have a vacant unit
  • some things to watch out for

2) Know your rights

  • learning the Quebec lease document
  • where to get help
  • structuring a lease to your advantage

3) Protect your investment : making smart maintenance decisions

  • how to renovate to add rental value
  • how to do maintenance so as to protect your investment
  • dealing with maintenance requests from tenants

Terrie Schauer has a PhD from Simon Fraser University and a Masters degree from Oxford.

She started managing student housing properties at 19, while attending University of Toronto. Throughout her studies, Terrie continued managing student buildings as a part time job.

After deciding the academic life was not for her, Terrie spent time in Marseille, where she worked in a family-run management company with apartments all over the city - but mostly in not-so-glamorous areas.

In 2009 she returned home to Montréal to open her own company, which specializes in optimizing profitability of rental properties. Over the course of her 20-year career as a property manager, Terrie has managed over 1000 households, in four large cities. Her passion is to help her clients get the most return from their investments.

Something people don't immediately know about Terrie: she boxed semi-professionally in France, and was two-time Canadian kickboxing champion.

Would love to see you!!!
