In every real estate boom, there is always that one location in a particular neighbourhood where contractors start buying, building and renovating. From there, the market grows exponentially around it. This area was Atwater Market. This location became the center of the boom, and within 20 years, has spread out all the way to its edges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Should I buy in Saint-Henri?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trendy artsy restaurants, including Canada\u2019s #1 Vin Papillon, along with the Lachine Canal, Atwater market, and many local boutiques, plus over twenty parks, makes this a great place to invest. The best thing about the area, is that you can walk everywhere. For quick transportation Lionel-Groulx and Place Saint-Henri metro stations are close by.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heritage buildings having a new life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saint-Henri and The Pointe historically was known as a French-Canadian, Irish and black, working class industrial neighbourhood. It was known as Les Tanneries, due to the leather tanning shops. Most all the large industrial companies from back in the late 1800\u2019s and early 1900\u2019s, such as The Dominion Textile Company (rue St-Ambroise),\u00a0 Canada Malting (rue Saint-R\u00e9mi), Imperial Tabacco (rue St-Antoine), and more, have all become condos.<\/p>\n<p>The area is also known for exposed wood beams, high ceilings, brick walls, and decorative mouldings. There are many different styles of buildings that are available. For example Dr Hall\u2019s home built in 1885 is for sale. It\u2019s an historical gem. Large, bright, solid house, skylights, 10&#8242; ceilings, bay windows, exposed brick, stained glass and stunning decorative mouldings. Large backyard with private parking, including basement suite with walkout.
