Dorval, rich in history<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dorval is the oldest city in the West Island, having been founded in 1667, and one of the oldest in Canada and North America. Dorval was originally named Gentilly.<\/span><\/p>\n

As with many other settlements on the island of Montreal, the Grand Trunk Railway, which came to Dorval in 1855, attracted many wealthy families, mostly English-speaking, in search of a summer cottage. There was a streetcar service to Dorval during the interwar period. The Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club was built in 1888, to service many of the summer vacationers.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the Second World War many middle-class families migrated to Dorval. The new housing at the time consisted mostly of small single family homes, townhouses and low-rise apartment buildings, built on lands previously used for agriculture and recreational activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 1940\u2019s and 50\u2019s, Dorval grew quite a bit with the enlarging and opening up of the new Montre\u0301al International Airport and the first mall-style shopping centre called Dorval Gardens.<\/span><\/p>\n

The amazing town of Dorval<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dorval is located on the south-west portion of the Island of Montreal, along the shores of Lake St-Louis. It has an extraordinary number of parks and green space along the waterfront. Arguably it has more than any other town on the Island. For Dorval\u2019s up and coming 125 year anniversary, they built an incredibly sized aquatic and sports complex in 2015. As well, the town has an amazing waterfront museum. It\u2019s an old stagecoach building that was built in 1874 converted into the museum. With its numerous parks, green spaces, municipal events, and elaborate recreational facilities, Dorval provide residents a great community life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dorval Island<\/span><\/h3>\n

I did a bit of research and found only 25 homes sold on Centris since 1987. Pretty sure most of the 58 cottages on this island are passed down to other generations. The island is accessible by ferry and you can walk around in about half an hour on its dirt road without any worry of being run over since there aren\u2019t any cars. It\u2019s supposed to be the smallest town in Canada, so it\u2019s not surprising that there aren\u2019t any businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

The housing market- February 2019<\/span><\/h3>\n

The lowest price home in Dorval is $250K and then jumps to $350K and higher. One third of homes for sale are over the million price mark. These expensive homes are all around the waterfront area and are either heritage buildings with large double lots or newer homes with regular sized lots. Don\u2019t despair if your budget is not that high, since there are quite a bit of traditional, three bedroom bungalows in an economical price range. Actually, they are quite the bang for your buck compared to the rest of the West Island that is in proximity to the water.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Condos<\/span><\/h3>\n

Dorval isn\u2019t well known for its condos. In fact, most of all the condos were built after year 2000. There are two area that the condos are mostly congregated in. Lakeshore and Dorval avenue, and the other is near the highway and the Dorval circle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Neighbouring East of Dorval is Lachine. It\u2019s another great option if you want to live in that vicinity. Lachine is a fabulous town with 3 main areas. To find out more, read up on Lachine Rich In Vintage Real Estate Properties.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue<\/strong><\/p>

Founded in 1703, it is the second oldest town in Montreal. At the tip of the West part of the island, home to a part of McGill University (1907). With its stellar architecture, heritage storefronts, canal and boat locks, waterfront walking path and farmer\u2019s market, this makes #1 on my list.<\/p>

In as little as 30 minutes from downtown, you\u2019ll be transported to a cutesy village that\u2019s worth a day trip. If you are a car lover, visit in June during their annual \u2018Cruisin Boardwalk\u2019 car show on Main Street and admire over 400 classic old cars.<\/p>

Pointe Claire Village, <\/strong>circa 1698<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cThe charming, historic community hugs the shore of Lac St. Louis, which provides lovely views.\u201d \u2013Montreal Families Magazine<\/p>

Walk around town and submerse yourself in old heritage culture. Pointe-Claire has over 193 heritage buildings, art galleries, boardwalk paths, restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. It\u2019s also home to the oldest Yacht Club on the island of Montreal, circa 1879.<\/p>

Go out for dinner at Le Gourmand, circa 1847 or hang at the Old Orchard Pub, circa 1850.<\/p>

Point-Claire has their famous windmill, circa 1710 - which was built for grinding cereals and defense purposes. Right next to it is the striking Saint-Joachim Church, circa 1885.<\/p>

Lachine waterfront<\/strong><\/p>

Lachine is one of the oldest pioneer villages in Canada. Rich in history and culture, it\u2019s also rich in vintage real estate buildings. You can find homes dating back to 1765. if you want to go for a stroll, the waterfront has a paved path for bikers and walkers and, during the summer, many people enjoy the views by sitting and picnicking along the grassy spots.<\/p>

There is a lot to do and see along the Lachine canal, including The Lachine Museum LeBer-LeMoyne Heritage Site with its classified archaeological collection, the oldest complete buildings on the island of Montreal. Spend the afternoon or full day enjoying the waterfront, restaurants and shops.<\/p>

NDG<\/strong><\/p>

The trendy Monkland street is the heart of the village. It\u2019s a touch of new age, organic living with coffee shops, many upscale restaurants and pubs to satisfy any style and taste. My favourite part of NDG is all the incredible \u201cbrown stone\u201d architecture. During the summer, they hosts their annual music festival, which you can walk up and down the streets, listening to live music being played on people\u2019s front lawn and balconies.<\/p>

Saint-Henri<\/strong><\/p>

Friendly, young, fun neighbourhood with lots to see and do. Trendy restaurants, boutiques and antique stores are now stretched across all of Notre Dame, along with new bars and outdoor terraces. It\u2019s worth a visit to walk along its famous drag and enjoy going in and out of shops, art galleries and restaurants. Saint-Henri is famous for its Atwater market and being built along side the Lachine Canal. You\u2019ll find many bikers, sunbathers, and picnickers, all hanging out enjoying the lazy days of summer.
